Dao De Jing: ch.78 (Teachings of Water) & ch.79 (The Contract)

This month, we’re going to continue the learning of Dao De Zing, chapter 78 & 79. (Yes, we’re looking at the most influential chapters to begin with!)

Chapter 78 – The Teachings of Water: In this chapter, Lao Zi unveils the wisdom imparted by the Energy/Creator, deeply embedded in the natural world. Lao Zi used water as a metaphor for a virtuous person, embodying qualities like adaptability, humility, and selfless generosity. Lao Zi further elaborated that water is the softest and most yielding substance, yet it can wear away the hardest rock over time. This illustrates the paradox that softness and flexibility can overcome rigidity and force.

Chapter 79 – The Contract (the creditor and the debtor): In this chapter, Lao-Zi explores the nature of 'contract', 'creditor', and 'debtor' to impart a lesson on the Creator's unconditional virtues. By emulating these virtues, we can not only resolve all forms of resentment but also eliminate the conditions that foster such resentment, thereby preventing future indignation.
