Our Meetup #16 will be held in 1776's Gates room on the 12th floor. If lost or any questions, please email Flavius fmihaies(at)gmail.com or text 202 370 1437 and we'll come pick you up.

We will learn how to showcase your data to make your story accessible and meaningful and encourage collaboration as well as how to pick the right data visualization tool.

Want to present your data in a way that better tells your story and encourages collaboration? Patrick McGarry from data.world will share 10 pragmatic lessons for building data collaboration. Patrick is currently building the thriving data community around data.world as the Head of Community. He has worked to build community and foster Open Source ideals at companies like Sourceforge/Slashdot, Alcatel-Lucent, and Perforce. Most recently Patrick served as the Director of Community for the Ceph open source project at the startup 'Inktank,' and later for Red Hat after a successful acquisition. Patrick enthusiastically helps companies to understand and adopt Open Source ideals through community engagement, conferences, and events. A seasoned speaker, Patrick has presented talks and workshops around the globe, including events like Linuxcon, OSCON, DEVIEW, OpenStack Summit, and a number of targeted custom events. The next presentation reviews the visualization tools available to help you choose the best for your use case. An expert in Business Intelligence and a Data Engineer at Share Our Strength, George Zoto will lead a discussion around data analytics and visualization. An innovative leader in the fight against childhood hunger in the US, George is a data reporter by day and loves discovering untold stories behind massive datasets. He and his team create interactive data visualizations, work with unstructured data, and build data engineering workflows. George builds big data pipelines that clean, transform, and aggregate data from various sources. He also develops machine learning models that can be used to make predictions and fight hunger. Prior to joining Share Our Strength, George was a Senior Data Analyst and Full Stack Developer at Hughes Network Systems, the world’s leading provider of Satellite Broadband Internet. He holds a B.S. in Computer Engineering and Telecommunications and a M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park.
