Abstract:

The financial system we see today has enabled resources to be more efficiently distributed; the Internet infrastructure we have today has enabled the marginal cost of serving additional customers to zero. AI is moving into the heart of the financial business model, enabling and accelerating virtuous business cycles to provide intelligent financial services at scale.

This talk dives into two fundamental business cycles in a financial institution: the acquisition of customers, and the sustaining of customer relationships, highlights opportunities in six areas where AI technologies can be readily deployed, and provide use cases for reference.

Speaker Bio:

Dr. Jike Chong is the Chief Data Scientist of Acorns, the leading micro-investment app in US with over 5 million verified investors. At Acorns, he using behavioral economic to help the up-and-coming save and invest for a better financial future. Before Acorns, Dr Chong served as the Chief Data Scientist of YiRenDai, an online P2P lending platform with more than $7B loans originated, and the first of its kind from China to go public on NYSE. Prior to YiRenDai, Dr. Chong established and headed the data science division at Simply Hired, a leading job search engine in Silicon Valley, and was invited to the White House under the Obama administration multiple times to advise on using AI to reducing unemployment. From 2011 to 2012, Dr. Chong led quantitative risk analytics at Silver Lake Kraftwerk, responsible for applying big data techniques to risk analysis of venture investment.

Since 2010, Dr. Chong has been an adjunct professor and PhD advisor at Electrical and Computer Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University, where he established the CUDA Research Center and CUDA Teaching Center for that focuses on the application of GPUs for Machine Learning. Recently in 2017, he also developed and taught a new graduate level course on Machine Learning for Internet Finance at Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, and is serving as an adjunct professor there. Dr. Chong received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and a Ph.D. from University of California, Berkeley. He holds 11 patents (6 granted, 5 pending).
