The free SQL Server IaaS extension brings the best of Azure closer to SQL Servers on Virtual Machines. We like to call it IaaS ++. With the IaaS extension enabled on VMs in Azure you can:

• Discover and manage SQL servers on VMs within a Single Azure View
• Set up Automated Patching and Backups
• Integrate and managed encryption keys with Azure Key vault
• Easily manage your SQL benefits such as Azure Hybrid Benefit for SQL

Azure SQL has the best PaaS services in cloud computing. But there are times where SQL on a VM is required to give flexibility for Operating System and SQL version control. With the SQL Server IaaS extension, we bring some of the PaaS services like Automated Patching and Backups to SQL on a VM.
