DSPT#99 Learning from physiological signals
Details
Join us on this meetup at Altice Aveiro where we’ll bring new topics related to Data Science. We’re going in "Learning from physiological signals" followed by an incredible Breakout Session where everyone can chat a little bit about their favourite topics
The preliminary agenda for the meetup is the following:
• 18:30-19:00: Welcome and get together
• 19:00-19:30: Talk + Q&A: "Learning from physiological signals"- Raquel Sebastião
• 19:40-19:45: Group photo
• 19:45-20:15: Networking/Coffee Break
• 20:15-20:45: Breakout Sessions
• 20:50: Closing
• 21:00: Dinner is optional but it might be an excellent opportunity for networking ( https://forms.gle/dxCoYMzhcHxvbCvn8 )
In case you need any support from DSPT feels free to contact the organization through the mobile 912305334. Thanks.
See you there!

Abstract: The autonomic nervous system ANS regulates fundamental physiological states which are typically involuntary, upregulating and downregulating various functions within our body. The ANS controls
various organ systems inside the body, namely muscles, glands and organs within the body. While maintaining the equilibrium of the body’s systems according to both internal and external stimuli, many
physiological signals reflect the activity of the ANS. As it functions without conscious control, ANS reactions are difficult to deceive.
This talk will present examples of Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) correlates in psychophysiological states in different contexts, such as:
- Human Assistance in Hazardous Scenarios
- Support Wellbeing
- Support Health
- Biometric Recognition
Short Bio: Raquel Sebastião is a researcher at the Institute of Electronics and Informatics Engineering of Aveiro (IEETA), University of Aveiro. She is Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics, with a background in Applied
Mathematics and Computational Methods, from the University of Porto. She has been working in Human-Centered Technologies, pursuing approaches strongly inspired and oriented to Humans: from basic research to advance knowledge on humans, supporting people either
in daily activities or in high-risk events.
Breakout sessions:
Come and network with other Data Scientist enthusiasts, Don’t be shy! Bring your topics, bring your questions, bring your friends and network with us. We are going to have a few topics prepared but feel free to wander around and engage with peers.
