DSPT#100 Where did I put my keys? or an overview on Multiple Instance Learning
Details
DSPT is returning to Porto, and we are super excited to see you again! We prepared a wonderful meetup for you, great for newbies and seniors alike.
Join us at this Meetup at Porto Innovation Hub where we’ll bring new topics related to Data Science. We’re going in "Where did I put my keys? or an overview on Multiple Instance Learning" followed by an incredible Breakout Session where everyone can chat a little bit about their favourite topics
=== SCHEDULE ===
The preliminary agenda for the meetup is the following:
• 18:30-19:00: Talk + Q&A: "Where did I put my keys? or an overview on Multiple Instance Learning"- Simão Faria
• 19:00-19:15: Networking/Coffee Break
• 19:15-20:00: Breakout Sessions
• 20:00:Dinner is optional but it might be an excellent opportunity for networking ([ https://forms.gle/FzoCDpuDEyidMZpE7 ](https://forms.gle/FzoCDpuDEyidMZpE7))
See you there!

Abstract: Multiple Instance Learning (MIL) is a form of weakly supervised learning based on the collective classification of sets of independent data samples. MIL methods were developed to deal with the cases where, in some tasks, labels don’t have a 1-to-1 relationship to each instance (sample) but to a whole bag of instances (set).
In this talk, the speaker will introduce the concept of MIL and how can its different methodologies be useful in your varied data science tasks. Usages of these approaches in health data will be explored through the work developed at iLoF.
Short Bio: Simão Faria is a Lead Data Scientist at iLoF facing the effort of leveraging Data Science knowledge to revolutionize health-related challenges. iLoF, with its innovative way of collecting optical signals from biological samples, aims to accelerate and support the development of personalized medicine. The speaker comes from a Biomedical Engineering background and has Data Science and Machine Learning experience both in research and industry. Some of his previous experience includes work in Computer Vision, Fintech and Image/Signal processing.
Breakout sessions:
Come and network with other Data Scientist enthusiasts, Don’t be shy! Bring your topics, bring your questions, bring your friends and network with us. We are going to have a few topics prepared but feel free to wander around and engage with peers.
