There will be time for lunch and shopping in the historic Village of Winter Park. Lunch is on your own.
The Winter Park Scenic Boat Tour is also on our agenda. The hourlong tour on Lake Osceola will cruise 3 of the 7 lakes and 2 manmade canals where we will enjoy seeing local fauna and maybe some wildlife. The view of opulent private homes and estates along the shore are another feature of the cruise. Across the way is the estate of former Rollins president Hugh McKean who with his wife is responsible for the in town Morse Gallery museum which boasts housing the World’s largest collection of Tiffany glass. The tour of Rollins College includes a look at the Knowles Memorial Chapel and the Cornell art center. We also have a picture stop with a realistic bronze statue of Ben Franklin sitting on a bench near the Walk of Fame which features a collection of stones from the birthplaces of the famous many of whom have visited the campus. The beautiful Azalea Park is located next to the area that the Rowing team uses for practice on Lake Maitland. There are many lovely homes on this waterway including one owned by the author of “With God as my copilot” and another by the famous Mr. Rogers of the acclaimed children’s show, Mr. Rogers neighborhood. One of the homes was about to be destroyed when a preservation group formed and moved the house known as Casa Feliz (Happy House) to another area near the public golf course and is now used for special events and fundraisers.
