See all- Defend the Fen - Honeysuckle RemovalPearl’s Fen, Fairborn, OH
Invasives like honeysuckle spread quickly and overrun native plants, shrubs and trees. Birds eat honeysuckle berries in abundance because they have no nutritional value and are not filling. Then the birds spread the seed with their droppings.
In the area where you will work, large honeysuckle trees have been removed, but the sprouts come back the following year. By removing these sprouts/leaves, the plant can't take in energy through photosynthesis so eventually they die.
