SMITH GARDENS and more

Details

Let's get together and explore the unique areas and neighborhoods the Dayton areas have to offer!

I'm trying to keep everyone busy this summer! πŸ˜²πŸ˜€

For this Urban let's go back to the amazing city of Oakwood!

If you have been on this hike with me I've changed it and added some things. I really like this route.

I'M LIMITING THIS HIKE TO 12!

It's street parking and I don't want to take up too much space in the neighborhood. Don't worry I'll do this one again!

We will meet at the entrance of Smith Gardens on Oakwood Ave. The address of the gardens are 11 Walnut Street but you can park on Oakwood Ave.

Smith Gardens was named one of the finest tiny gardens in Ohio. Read about it here:

But first let's walk down the street and admire the beautiful homes in this awesome city!

We are traveling approximately 3 miles on brick roads, dirt and gravel trails and pavement.

We are visiting several forests/gardens.. There are some ups and downs in these small forests and you may want hiking poles. Wear sturdy shoes.

We'll walk down about a half mile and begin to enter several small forests and gardens.

1.) Elizabeth Garden... dirt trail that runs along a creek
2.) A fairy garden on private property open to the public
3.) Loy Garden...lots of steps that are stones and some are uneven.
4.) Houk Stream forest/Centennial Park... Decent sized forest with a small waterfall, creek and some ups and downs.
4.) Francines Garden...a small area inside the Houk Stream forest. There are some steps.
5.) Swan Pond..a private gated property with 2 famous Swans. Hopefully we will see them.
6.)Smith Gardens. A beautiful garden that is popular for prom pictures etc. Given to the city of Oakwood by the Smith family as long as they kept it going and they have.

Oakwood is hilly and there are some decently long inclines on the roads.

Let's take our time and enjoy this walk.

I drive a green Chevy Equinox with black wheels.
