Program:
Mar a Mar: Karen Power’s Trek on the Camino de Costa Rica
Presenter: Karen Power

Presented By: Springboro Next Destination Speaker Series - Free & Open To The Public

Description:
Come along with Karen Power on a walk across rural Costa Rica. The Camino de Costa Rica stretches 174 miles from the shores of the Caribbean to the beaches of the Pacific Ocean. Spectacular mountain views, untouched tropical rain forests, and diverse wildlife make Costa Rica a must-see, eco-friendly destination. The Camino itself is a rugged network of steep gravel and dirt country roads stitched together to create a pathway up mountains, through valleys and towns, and across lush plantations of plantain, pineapple, raspberries, palm trees, and coffee.
Relive Karen’s journey with her and meet the kind-hearted Ticos (as the Costa Ricans call themselves) who provided lodging, food and help on this hot, wet, and muddy journey. Discover the soul of Pura Vida as you learn about Costa Rican culture, daily life, and the valiant efforts to protect the endangered sea turtles. Let Karen’s story ignite your own spirit of adventure and inspire you to experience the raw beauty of Costa Rica firsthand.

Bio: Karen Power is a retired college professor, a grandmother of 4, a volunteer trail maintainer, and an educator at local parks. Her long-distance hikes include the 1100-mile Florida Trail, the 1400-mile Buckeye Trail, the 480-mile French Way on the Camino de Santiago, Kilimanjaro, and others. Karen’s 3,000+ miles of long hiking have inspired a non-lucrative hobby as a free lance writer, cartoonist, and writing coach.
