New Meetup: Maryland Heights and Weverton Cliffs

From: Jim N.

Announcing a new Meetup for The Washington Backpackers Meetup Group!

What: Maryland Heights and Weverton Cliffs

When: Sunday, November 28,[masked]:30 AM

Where: Weverton Cliffs
Md Rt 67 and Weverton Road
Boonsboro, MD 21713

I am unexpectedly in town, so wanted to post a last minute hike since the weather is supposed to be great! This is a nearby hike I have never done before and want to watch the 4 PM game. so want a quick high reward (great views) yet well earned hike! Those who know me will understand the meaning of this phrase! We will meet at the trailhead to Weverton Cliffs at 9:30AM, google link here:

http://www.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=39.3331,

We will then do Maryland Heights with a trail description here:

http://www.hikingupward.com/OMH/MarylandHeights/
which is a 1600' change in elevation over 5.3 miles. So altogether it will be about a 2600' change in elevation over 8-9 miles. This is a stenuous hike with a couple take your breath away climbs. I believe there are 14 switchbacks to Weverton Cliffs and for Maryland Heights you just walk way up the mountain then back down. I will leave us the option to do only do one hike if we wish and as always a meal afterwards is always an option depending on the group! Harper's Ferry is always such a beautiful town to visit and this is a great way to work off that extra food we ate and have some fun and make some new friends as well! My cell is[masked] so let's go have some fun on a sunny late Fall day on a nearby hike!
