XR & Art: A Conversation On Climate Change With Activist & Artist George Sabra

Details

As world leaders gather in Scotland for the UN Climate Change Conference, the need for meaningful action is clearer than ever. Record-breaking storms, severe flooding and wildfires, and unusual climate patterns across the globe have caused untold damage and loss of life; and the situation for at-risk communities is expected to worsen.

Now, artists, activists, and scientists alike are turning to XR to communicate with the public and their leaders to highlight its impact on the world.

DCXR invites you to a discussion with artist George Sabra and XR Technologist/ Climate activist, Shayna Skolnik , about presenting environmental art in VR and the importance of using new technologies to communicate concepts and ideas to the public. Sabra's latest work - The Big Knot - was designed to be constructed of 193 oil barrels, each painted with a national flag to represent countries' shared dependence on fossil fuels and the need to move to renewable energy. It was created in response to the UN Climate Change Summit, COP26, being held in Glasgow, Scotland. Participants will have a chance to experience this largescale artwork via VR during the program.

This event is brought to you in partnership with MAVRIC and Capitol Interactive.
