DCRUG: Monthly Meetup

Location visible to members

Our meetings are open to all experience levels, from total novices to expert Rubyists. Current agenda: Product vs Engineering: A Healthy Tension - Casey Watts A software team is most effective when product and engineering are both empowered. Unfortunately, lopsided teams are very common. How can we balance the forces to maintain a healthy tension? What unique context does each side have, and what natural incentives motivate us? How does this affect what we prioritize, how we track it, and how we deal with things that go wrong? "Casey Watts!" owns an instrument in every color of the rainbow, and can play Bad Romance on all of them. His super-power is empathy and helping others become more empathetic. He has a background in psychology, teaching, software development, and product management. We now meet at Optoro's Metro Center location at 1001 G St NW, 12th floor Please note our Code of Conduct: https://github.com/joshsz/organization_documents/blob/master/dcrug/CodeOfConduct.md We always need presenters, so if you have a topic or project on which you'd like to do a 30-minute presentation on anything Ruby-related, Rails-related or possibly of interest to Ruby developers, please contact our organizers [masked] and we'll schedule you to speak. If you have presented before, you are welcome to give a presentation on a new topic. This is a great chance for some of you guys and gals lingering in the back of the room to share some of the cool things you are working on. Don't be shy -- you're among fellow geeks. :) As always, we'll have an ample supply of free pizza and soda for all attendees, so don't worry about eating dinner beforehand. And we'll be heading to a nearby bar after the meeting, to unwind and socialize with fellow techies.

DCRug Hack Night

Optoro @ Metro Center

Let's meet up and hack together! We'll go from 7 until 9 or 10, depending on how late people want to go. This is a great time to come out and work on open source or your own project alongside other people from the community who are more than happy to help you through a tough patch or commiserate over just how annoying it is to deal with that SQL or third-party API or whatever :) Of course there's no requirement to share, you're more than welcome to come, hang out, and hack with fellow rubyists! This meetup is welcoming to beginners and experts alike. Please note our Code of Conduct: https://github.com/joshsz/organization_documents/blob/master/dcrug/CodeOfConduct.md
