Grenada is knows as the Wreck Capital of the Carribean with over 20 wrecks around the island. This includes the Bianca C., which is the only cruise ship that is sunk within recreational scuba depths in the Carribean. There are also over 30 reefs and an Underwater Sculpture Park so we will get a good mix of diving types. We will talk through and decide the types of dives that we want to do. There will be easy reefs, wrecks, challenging dives, and easy dives. While this is a great mix, this will not necessarily be the trip for everyone, so I plan to talk to everyone who is interested to determine if this is the right trip for you. Don't worry, if this is not the best trip for you, the next one probably is.

We will be diving with Aquanauts, which is a first rate dive operation. They do Valet Diving, which means that they treat you like royalty and provide a lot of assistance. For instance, to get in the water, you will walk to the back of the boat and sit on a stool. They will get your gear and drape it over you. You just stand up and step off. Can't get any easier.

We will be booking 10 dives. This will usually be 2 morning dives. The boat also does a 1 tank afternoon dive, and we can schedule both Dawn Dives and Night Dives. I'll be up for anything, so lets chat and see what everyone wants to do.

The resort is the True Blue Bay boutique resort with 4 pools, pool bar, On-Site Spa, and an on-site chocolate factory. There is a shuttle to the beach.

Breakfast is included in the price of the room, and we will do lunch and dinner on our own costs so we can go into town and explore the culture and great restaurants of the town of St. George.

The Grenada trip will offer more flexibility than most trips. Unlike many other resorts, we are not locked into a certain number of days, or arrival and departure dates. For instance, I plan to fly in on Friday. The difference of flying in Friday vs Saturday pays for the extra day of lodigng on the island, so it is a deal, especially when you realize that Monday is a holiday and so you are still talking about only 5 vacations days off of work.

As many of you know, I can also book your air fare, and you will share in my status benefits. You can get up to 3 checked bags for free, and an upgrade to prime seats with extra legroom (based on availability), and boarding group 1, which guarantees that you will have space for your carry on. I'm limited to only 7 additional people so I'll need to know soon. I plan to book air the week of 8/22.

Securing your spot on the trip:
A $500 deposit will secure your spot. If you pay by credit card, you will pay the credit card fees, or you can pay by cash, money transfer, check, or other method that does not charge fees. Signing up on Meetup will allow you to pay on line with a credit or debit card. If you send me a check or pay another way, I'll add you when I receive the deposit.

The remaining money will be due around September 1. I'm trying to get the exact date from Aquanauts, but it will be quick. They usually have a 45 day requirement to pay the remainder. I will send you an invoice through Quicken to pay for the remainder. I'll need to know how many days you plan to go for to generate that invoice.

Please reach out to me with your email address and phone number if you do not sign up throgh Meetup so I can get in touch with you. email me at Rock@DCScuba.com . You can also call at 703-801-3154 and leave a message which I'll return as soon as possible.

I'll work out your specific costs when you let me know your schedule.

Remember, we get a 5% discount after 10 paid divers and a 10% discount after 14 paid divers

Other Basics:

  1. You are not locked into a schedule. I will be leaving on Friday 10/10 but I can arrange for you to arrive earlier or later. The difference between the Friday air fare and the Saturday air fare will more than cover the extra hotel night. Also, the Monday is a holiday, so you will still burn only 5 vacation days.
  2. True Blue resort is a luxury resort with a chocolate factory and a spa on site. This is the perfect destination to bring your non-diving significant other. They shouldn't get bored while you are out diving.
  3. Diving will be a mix of wrecks and reefs.
  4. We will try to dive (weather permitting) the Bianca C. , which is the only cruise ship sunk in recreational depths in the Carribean.
  5. I can book air fare for up to 7 additional people. If I do, you will receive my benefits, which includes seat upgrades and 2 free bags. You will have to flly on my itinerary, though. Or you can book your own flight. Up to you.
  6. Aquanauts is a "Valet Diving" operation. It doesn't get any easier.
  7. As with all club trips, I talk to everyone about whether this is the right trip for you before accepting you on the trip.
  8. We will need to pay relatively quickly as we are only 2 months out. So plan in the next few weeks.
  9. We will get a 5% discount if we get 10 or more people on the trip diving and with 7 hotel nights and 5 dive days. Discount increases to 10% if we get 14 paid people.
  10. We will have at least 10 morning dives, but can add the afternoon dive, Dawn Dive, and night dives. Those staying longer can dive more days. We may be able to dive an additional dive on a day or two, depending on how many people want to do that.
  11. Yes its hurricane season. Grenada sits outside the Hurricane Belt, so they are less likely to get a direct hit from a hurricane. That being said, a storm can affect travel arrangements, so travel insurance is recommended. The club can help you get DAN insurance, sometimes at a discount.
  12. I will book the 10 dives, and the individuals who book more dives will have to pay the additional.
  13. This trip is not for everyone. Grenada has some dive sites with currents (drift diving) and some that are deep. We will do a mixture of easy reef dives, wreck dives, some dives that are easy and some that are challenging. You will be able to decide which ones you want to do, so you won't be forced into anything uncomfortable. I'll be talking to everyone who signs up to help determine if this is the right trip for you.
  14. It is recommended to have DAN Membership and DAN Trip Insurance
