Alles ansehen- May Meeting 2 - Birnam Wood (Eleanor Catton)Obicà Mozzarella Bar - Poland Street, London3,00 GBP
For the second meeting in May, we will read Eleanor Catton's 2023 novel, Birnam Wood. Her second novel, The Luminaries, made her the youngest winner of the Booker Prize, while also being the longest book to score the prize in its history. Back with her third work, Birnam Wood is '[...] a dazzling psychological thriller about a guerrilla gardening group and their compromised existence working the land of an abandoned farm, rich in profound characterisation and prescient, thought-provoking themes.' (Waterstones)
'Mysterious and marvellously unpredictable, Birnam Wood had me reading the way I used to as a kid - curiously, desperately and as if it was the whole world. Catton connects to the natural and unnatural ways in which we try to control our environments, our impulses and one another. A spectacular novel, conjured by a virtuoso' - Rivka Galchen

- June Meeting 1 - Beautiful Ruins (Jess Walter)Zizzi - St Katharine's Docks, Dock3,00 GBP
For the first meeting in June, we will read Jess Walter's Beautiful Ruins. His sixth effort was a New York Times #1 Bestseller and is "[g]loriously inventive, funny, tender and constantly surprising.' It is set in Italy in the 1960s and a modern Hollywood studio.
'Intensely romantic and redolent of old-school Hollywood glamour, Walter's hugely popular bestseller is both deft Tinseltown satire and wonderfully immersive character study.'
