Death Collaborative

This monthly Death Cafe centers Black, Indigenous, and People of Color in conversation about death, dying, and grief.
Experiences of loss are shaped by culture, history, land, and systems. This gathering intentionally makes space for those realities and the nuances that are not always acknowledged in mixed settings.

All are welcome. We ask that participants who do not identify as BIPOC attend with a commitment to listen, reflect, and honor the focus of the space.

This event follows the global Death Cafe model: Deathcafe.com

• No intention of leading participants to a conclusion or course of action
• Not therapy, grief counseling, research, or community consultation
• Participant-led discussion only

Death Cafe is for people who feel able to engage in open conversation about death. If you are seeking grief counseling or bereavement support, there are other spaces better suited for that care, and we can provide you with those community resources.

Join the team for thier inaugural Nature’s Burial Volunteer Training! Whether you’re already familiar with natural burial or simply curious about how you can get involved, this training will introduce you to the many ways volunteers can support Nature’s Burial and Blazing Star Sanctuary.

### 🌱 12:30–1:15 PM | Volunteer Training

We’ll begin with a presentation covering:

• Burial & cremains services
• Gravesite preparation
• Trail and preserve maintenance
• Cemetery plot marking
• Special event hosting, including Remembrance Day
• How to prepare and dress for volunteer service
• How to interact with families and clients

### 🪦 1:15–2:00 PM | Blazing Star Tour & Burial Demonstration

After the presentation, join us for an in-person tour and hands-on look at the burial process, including:

• Viewing the burial pod and supplies
• Touring a gravesite and learning service setup & breakdown
• Cemetery marker training
• Receiving volunteer handouts, maps, and client packets

This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about natural burial, conservation, and compassionate service while discovering how you can become part of the Nature’s Burial volunteer community.

Welcome to Legacy Lounge, a welcoming space to reflect and have meaningful conversations about life, death, legacy, grief, and all that they encompass.

Formerly known as Beyond Death Café, Legacy Lounge continues our commitment to creating open, honest, and judgment-free conversations around topics that can be difficult to discuss but are deeply important.

Hosted at Brookside Champions Funeral Home, Legacy Lounge brings people together in a relaxed setting where you can ask questions, share stories, explore your own thoughts about mortality, or simply listen.

There is no agenda, no presentation, and no expectation to have all the answers.
Just come as you are.

What We Talk About
Our conversations may wander into places like:

• What does a meaningful life look like?
• What do you want people to remember about you?
• How do we speak about death with the people we love?
• What does a “good death” mean to you?
• How can we better support someone who is grieving?
• What traditions, rituals, or beliefs shape the way we think about death?
• What would you like your loved ones to know?
• How can pondering your own mortality help us live more intentionally?

Sometimes, the conversation goes somewhere completely unexpected.
Therein lies the magic of the community conversation.

A Place for Conversation, Not Answers
Legacy Lounge isn't about finding the “right” way to think about death. It's about making room for different perspectives, experiences, beliefs, questions, laughter, tears, and the occasional moment of discomfort.

This is not a replacement for grief therapy.
It's not necessary for funeral planning.
You don't need previous knowledge about the end-of-life process.
You just have to be willing to have the conversation and have an open mind.

Whether you're death-curious, deeply reflective, navigating loss, contemplating your own legacy, or simply looking for a community willing to talk about the things most people avoid, there's a seat for you at Legacy Lounge.
