COLONIALISM
“No one is illegal on stolen land”, said singer Billie Eilish at the recent Grammys. Some Native Americans then suggested she return the land her mansion is built on.
The Wikipedia definition is, “Colonialism is the practice of extending and maintaining political, social, economic, and cultural domination over a territory and its people by another people in pursuit of interests defined in an often distant metropole, who also claim superiority.” In almost every land, some horrific tales of oppression followed.
From Ancient Egypt if not earlier, nearly everyone who could exert power over others, did so. Should the English ask for recompense from Norway, Denmark and Sweden for the raids and slave-taking by the Vikings?
Would the United States be as powerful today without its British roots?
Do ‘truth and reconciliation-style’ apologies and payments help to right the hurt caused?
This is a fascinating discussion by Cambridge historian, Dr Dominic Sandbrook. He is co-host of the world's most popular history podcast, The Rest Is History:

Here is an article from the National Association of Scholars. When first published in 2017 – after double-blind peer review - it received hostile opposition and death threats. https://www.nas.org/academic-questions/31/2/the_case_for_colonialism

RSVP POLICY:
RSVPs and cancellations will be accepted up until 6 hours before the start of the meetup so that people who feel unwell on the day have time to change their RSVP and allow someone else to attend.
Being registered to attend and not attending OR cancelling your attendance after 12:30pm on Tuesday will be considered a 'No Show'.
Members with two 'No Shows' will be banned from attending further D&M Meetups. This RSVP policy has become necessary due to the high number of last minute withdrawals and non-attendance. This unfairly causes people on the Waiting List to miss out. Thanks for your cooperation.
