Why are you here?

This is not an existential question. I am genuinely curious about why you are a member of this group. I had my reasons for starting it, and my choice of topics should give you some insight as to what those were, but why did you sign up? What does being a Deep Thinker mean to you? Are you just interested in confirming your conclusions or are you hoping to be challenged? Are you happy to be an observer and absorb the discussion or do you really seek to probe deeply into a subject?

I know this may sound a bit like a navel-gazing exercise, but after all these years, I thought it was time to try and understand the rationales behind the group members and their interests. In addition, this will help me greatly in conjuring topics in the future.
