As we watch the pretzel logic of the Trump Administration in dealing with Iran, it reminded me of how our society deals with the demands and limitations of enforcement. We hate being surveiled but wonder where the authorities are when someone else is breaking the rules.

When Trump sees Iran violating the international order, he thinks that simply calling out the military - or threatening to = will force them to capitulate. But there are limitations to having the means to monitor and enforce rules. The same goes with civic life. We hate the idea of red light cameras and doorbell cams spying on our every move. But when we are violated or see a violation in progress, our first instinct is to look for the authorities or some video proof that an infraction occurred.

Let's spend some time talking about the practical realities of enforcement and its limitations.

Hope to see you there!
