Yes, it's Mother's Day but you should be ready for a break at 2!
After hearing this podcast (https://the1a.org/segments/if-you-can-keep-it-what-the-wealth-gap-means-for-democracy/) and then hearing that California will place a billionaire tax proposal on the November ballot (https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2026-04-26/billionaire-tax-backers-say-they-have-enough-signatures-times-two-to-qualify-for-ballot), I thought we should revisit this topic that we've discussed in other forms - universal basic income, corrosive effects of the wealth gap, etc.
Will the state see an exodus of the ultra-wealthy? What prices do we pay as a society for tolerating a gap of such size? I often am reminded of this clip from The Dark Knight Rises: https://youtu.be/5P_bnP_yn_E?si=TZJ_QnqAx0n6BNHf
