DC908 Talk - "The Com" and the Cybercrime Ecosystem

Talk Synopsis:
This talk explores the online criminal ecosystem known as the Com, examining its key communities, the threat actors operating within them, and the relationships that connect them. It will break down the three core elements of the Com: Hacker Com, Extortion Com, and IRL Com, and explore via Open Source Data how these communities intersect, collaborate, and influence one another. The talk will also examine groups such as Scattered Lapsus$ Hunters and assess how the evolution of the Com is reshaping the threat landscape and presenting new challenges for cyber investigators.

Speaker:
Vivek is a Senior Cyber Threat Analyst at Darktrace, where he conducts investigations into a broad range of threat actors and emerging cyber threats. Vivek has contributed to numerous investigations through the company’s Threat Research team, including serving as a project manager on investigations into industry-specific threats. He has also authored multiple blogs examining emerging trends and developments across the cyber threat landscape. In addition to his professional work, Vivek is a co-founder of the Cyber Security Forum Initiative’s Cyber Threat Intelligence Internship program.
