About us
DeFi Toronto — Learn On-Chain Finance is a community for Torontonians who want to understand DeFi — in plain language, with no hype and no shilling.
DeFi is the financial system rebuilt on public blockchains: saving, lending, payments, and fixed-rate deposits, run by open-source code instead of banks — where every transaction is visible and you hold your own keys. Your bank pays 0.1% on savings and 3–5% on a locked-in GIC; on-chain markets price the same products in the open, and understanding how is a financial superpower. This group exists to teach exactly that: where yield really comes from, how stablecoins hold their value, what over-collateralised lending means, how to judge a vault, how self-custody works without seed-phrase anxiety — and what can go wrong, said out loud.
We meet in Toronto (with online sessions so anyone can join): beginner walkthroughs, live protocol deep-dives, honest risk talks, and AMAs with builders. No prior crypto knowledge needed — if you have a bank account and curiosity, you belong here. Our rule: if someone offers you a return and won't explain where it comes from, close the tab. Here, the explanation is the whole point.
Hosted by the Toronto-based team building vildX, an on-chain NeoBank. Nothing in this group is investment advice.
