Our first presenter is Tom DeGerlia of Colorado Digital. He has two presentations, both science-related.
His first presentation is: "Understanding Relativity and Time Dilation in Under 10 Minutes"
Based on his own research on relativity, Tom will cover the basics of time dilation in a format that anyone can understand and will explain relativity with almost no math. Definitely no calculus. It's a 10-minute crash course in layperson's general relativity.
The second presentation is entitled: "Navigating the Social Perils of Scientific Discovery."
In this presentation, Tom will be describing his research journey, because it has not at all been what he expected.
First and foremost, anyone can make a meaningful contribution to science simply by engaging with the topic.
To research relativity has proven to be socially perilous territory as well, making for a lonely journey at times, and one requiring a lot of perseverance.
There's a lot of gratification that comes with scientific discovery, but unfortunately, contributing to science is not as simple as making an authentic scientific discovery.
In summary, the second presentation will be on social hurdles associated with independently introducing a new theory in science.
