Film twitter's favorite provocateur and former horror director Ari Aster is BACK with another bold, uncompromising, and I'm sure polarizing entry into his unique, edgy filmography: EDDINGTON
Premiered at the 2025 Cannes film festival (no prize won), the film follows the political and social turmoil in the fictional city of Eddington, New Mexico, caused by the COVID-19 pandemic by incorporating genres of neo-Western and political films with dark comedic elements. Starring Joaquin Phoenix, Emma Stone, Austin Butler
As one of five enjoyers of Beau is Afraid in the Denver Metro area, I'm very excited and nervous to view this film. The subject is ripe for narrative abuse, and Ari Aster's not exactly known for astute political commentary. However, he's a talented filmmaker with a unique voice that I'm sure can bring a lot of tasty nuggets for us to dissect and discuss.
Time and spirits willing, we can head over to Bruz for some discussion afterwards!
