Tech Talk: Microservices, Part 1

Details
This is the first of a two part series on Microservices. The focus will be on microservices including an introduction to them, pros and cons, and converting existing monolithic applications into microservice applications. Once the basics of microservices are covered, participants will get their feet wet with "Million Song Library" Application. This is an open source microservice-based application that Kenzan developed to show the ease of creating simple microservices applications. This first talk will be presented by Kenzanites, Bill Schwanitz and Craig Martin.
Bill Schwanitz is a Technical Architect at Kenzan. He has been a software developer/architect for more years than he cares to calculate - the last 5 of which have been spent building Java back-end services running on AWS.
Craig Martin is the Vice President of Engineering at Kenzan. He is based out of Denver, and oversees all engineering activities within Kenzan. Many of his current responsibilities have been focused on architecting, and leading projects to create, highly scalable cloud-based microservice applications.
The second part of the series will take place in December and will be a much deeper dive into Million Song Library itself, and the technologies involved. Most notably, this will cover Datastax, Netflix OSS (Zuul, Eureka, Ribbon, Hystrix), and the architectural patterns utilized.
