What makes a great cold opening for a film?
Details
Last time we talked a bit about loglines, then more about the scripts we read through, and then even more about writing in this crazy industry.
One suggestion for this next meeting was to talk about cold openings. Those scenes that bring an audience into a movie before the opening credits, and have them glued throughout the film. It's the promise that a film must fulfill.
Think the shark scene in JAWS.
How do you find your cold openings during your writing process? Do you have favorites from other movies? Let's talk about a few of them, then get to work sharing any projects up to ten pages.
It is always "optional" to bring work in. Our focus is on the craft, networking and supporting each other.
We might take a pict of the group, as we have here from last time. It too is optional, of course. But we really like sharing the experience with our community.
