What is the Difference Between Acceptance and Tolerance of Grief?

Details
Patrick will facilitate our discussion this week about the difference between the acceptance of grief and the tolerance of grief.
The terms “acceptance” and “tolerance” are often used interchangeably in casual conversation, but they mean very different things. Tolerance is enduring or putting up with the reality of the loss, often with an emotional distance. Tolerance is also usually tinged with resistance, resentment, or avoidance. Acceptance, on the other hand, is acknowledging and integrating the reality of the loss. Acceptance involves openness, allowing, and even curiosity about one’s feelings about the loss. In this session, we will explore where in our lives we are tolerating the reality of the loss, and where we are accepting the reality of the loss, and ways to turn that tolerance into acceptance.
Discussion will be Thursday, the 14th at 6:00. We hope you will attend.
