There is no "right" way to sleep or feel after loss. On Thursday evening, let's explore how grief affects our energy and how we can care for ourselves without judging our bodies' experiences.
Grief affects every system in our body. Our brains are processing loss; our nervous systems remain on high alert; stress hormones increase; and emotions require tremendous energy. Sleep and energy often change as our bodies adapt to a world that no longer feels safe or familiar.
One of the most common, yet least talked about, experiences of grief is exhaustion. Many people say, "I'm tired all the time," even if they aren't physically doing more. Others find they can't sleep, wake throughout the night, or dream constantly about the person who died. Some sleep all day while others barely sleep at all.
