This presentation is for families, caregivers, and ADHDers who are trying to understand what’s really going on when everyday tasks lead to shutdowns, resistance, and the powerful emotions that ensue. Known as Demand Avoidance, this condition arises when we meet overwhelming demands and expectations that make us feel incapable and ineffective, and then made worse by powerful emotional reactivity.
In this presentation, we will explore why these experiences happen and how to support your child (or yourself) using tools from the Happy Medium Approach. You’ll learn to build intrinsic motivation, use gentle, affirming language, and co-create a tool called the People File—a strengths-based guide that helps individuals feel understood, empowered, and safe.
We’ll also introduce the DNA-V model (Discoverer, Noticer, Advisor, and Values) as a flexible, friendly way to support emotional growth, self-awareness, and healthy autonomy.
