Part 3: Exploring the Internet of Things (IoT) - Frontend Focus

Details

Hello Members and New-Comers!

We are doing the last of our Internet of Things series! As the organizers of the Denver Modern Tech we thought it would be cool to explore the world where we could mesh together hardware and software. So, we wanted to put on a three part series for building a prototype IoT device to exploring the field of connected devices. We decided it would be pretty cool to build a fullstack app with an integrated soil moisture sensor device leveraging AWS. So, please tune in or join us in person for the three part demo!

Part 1 (August 18th) : Putting together the device. We'll be using a Raspberry Pi and hooking it up to a soil moisture sensor. This will be our prototype IoT device. We will load software onto the device so that it can communicate with the cloud.
Part 2 (September 15th): Building the backend. We will be leveraging various AWS services in order for our device to be registered in the cloud and allow it to save data to a database.
Part 3 (October 20th): Build a frontend application to view and interact with the data. Here we are going to leverage React in order to build a simple dashboard to see data our device is producing.

We thought this would be a pretty cool series and would like to invite you to join us.

Please read all the FAQs below for important event information including proof of vaccine requirements.

What we will cover during the presentation?
In addition to doing a quick review of what we covered in Part 1, we will demo the setup for handling events based on IoT data. We will be using AWS IoT Core, AWS SNS to create email and sms notifications, and may even venture out a bit further to see about using AWS Lambda to log data to DyanmoDB.

What's the agenda for the evening?

  • 5:30pm - 6:00pm:
Food and drinks will be served! Come for connecting and networking!

Where is the event being held?
At Slalom's 8th floor office at 1899 Wynkoop Street in Denver.

Will there be a virtual option?
Yes, we will provide a link the day of the event.

Is parking available?
Street parking is available! Plus, there are a few public garages in the area and the building itself has a parking garage - entrance is on the north side of the build opposite of the Chop House. Will there be food and drink?
Of course! Beer and pizza, salad, and non-alcoholic beverages will be provided!

Any important COVID-19 things I should know?
Proof of vaccine is required if you are a visitor to the Slalom office. Someone will check your vaccine status upon arrival. Slalom's policy is that you MUST use the CLEAR app in order to show proof of vaccine - there are no exceptions to this, sincere apologies for any inconvenience this causes. We will not be permitted to allow you to enter the office if you do not show your vaccination status with CLEAR.
NOTE: this is only because the event is being held at a Slalom office.

Do I need to wear a mask?
No, you are not required to wear a mask in Slalom's office 🥳. However, feel free to put one on if that is what you wish.

Where can I find out information on using CLEAR for my proof of vaccine?
Great question! Follow the link here: https://www.clearme.com/healthpass

I have a question or suggestion who can I contact?
Reach out to Alex or Conrad using the meetup page.

Can I bring a friend?
