Type Parameters, Implicits, and Evidence

Details

Interested in learning more about Scala's type system and how it helps enable some of the "magic" in Spark's encoders? Want to enjoy free food and beverage while meeting fellow Scala engineers? If so, you'll want to attend the first Scala meetup at Strava Denver HQ.

For this kick-off event, Jack Kelly from FullContact will be presenting the following talk:

Type Parameters, Implicits, and Evidence: Ad-Hoc Polymorphism in SparkSQL's Encoders

This talk will include an introduction to type parameters and implicits in the Scala language, an explanation of how they can be combined into evidence for ad-hoc polymorphism via type classes, and an example of how ad-hoc polymorphism is used to supply encoders to SparkSQL's datasets.

Schedule:
6-6:30: Dinner and networking
6:30-7:30: Presentation and Q&A
7:30-8:00: Social time/wrap up.

Please RSVP so that we can get an accurate headcount for the food and beverages. All visitors to the office will need to sign in/sign an NDA on an iPad at the entrance before attending the event.
