What we’re about

### Welcome to the Denver Songwriters & Lyricists Group!

Join a vibrant community of songwriters and lyricists across Denver and the Front Range! This group is a space for creatives to connect, share original work—whether live performances, recorded mixes, or written lyrics—and receive constructive feedback in a supportive, collaborative environment. Most importantly, it’s a place to make lasting friendships within the local songwriting scene.

### What We Do

  • Share original songs, lyrics, or recordings for feedback
  • Offer and receive constructive critiques to refine our craft
  • Exchange lyrical ideas and songwriting inspiration
  • Build a strong network of fellow songwriters and musicians
  • Encourage artistic growth in a positive, judgment-free space
  • Record your own performances for personal reference

Unlike an open mic, our focus is on hearing the song and engaging in thoughtful discussions—whether in person, on paper, or via email—to improve our work and support each other’s creative journey.

### Why Join?

The creative process can feel isolating, but sharing our work with like-minded artists fosters growth and motivation. As a group, we:

  • Improve our songwriting skills
  • Gain confidence in presenting our work
  • Form friendships and find fans within the community
  • Collaborate on co-writing projects
  • Expand our catalog of original songs
  • Increase opportunities for professional recordings
  • Support and inspire one another
  • Most importantly—have fun!

### Get Involved!

We’re always looking for responsible, enthusiastic hosts to help expand our reach and organize more events across the area. If you’d like to host, you’re welcome to borrow our mini PA system in Denver.
Potential events include:

  • Song Circles – Peer feedback, critiques, and encouragement
  • Open Mics – Showcase your songs in a relaxed setting
  • Songwriter Showcases – Perform for an audience
  • Workshops – Learn and grow together
  • Group Busking – Play music in public spaces
  • Co-Writing Sessions – Collaborate with fellow members
  • Recording Sessions – Capture high-quality performances
  • General Collaborations – Connect with other songwriters

### Respect & Intellectual Property

Art is subjective, and every critique should be given with humility and respect. The best approach is Compliment → Constructive Criticism → Suggestion → Compliment.
Additionally, please only share songs you’re comfortable putting into the public sphere. While outright copying is unacceptable, songwriting naturally involves influence. If you’re serious about protecting your work, consider registering with BMI, ASCAP, or publishing online before sharing.

### Recording Policy

Free professional recordings are no longer provided at meetings. You’re encouraged to record your own performance (audio or video) with your personal device but only your own performance—not others’ time or discussions.

### Meeting Details

  • When: As often as possible! RSVP on Meetup—events are first come, first served.
  • Where: Locations vary. We welcome suggestions for free or low-cost venues that accommodate 10–20 people with good acoustics. Churches, wooden rooms, and similar spaces are ideal.

### Our Mission

One of the greatest benefits of this community is discovering and supporting local talent. Beyond our meetings, we encourage members to attend each other’s gigs and help strengthen Denver’s live music scene. A thriving community comes from mutual support, not just focusing on personal success.

### Group Guidelines

To maintain a positive, welcoming environment, we avoid divisive topics such as politics in our meetings and songs. There are other spaces for those discussions—here, we’re all about music and friendships!

### About the Founder

This group isn’t about me—it’s about all of us and the music we create together. That said, I’m passionate about songwriting and enjoy sharing my work under @Sami_Serrag_Music across multiple platforms. If you’re curious, check out my LinkTree: https://linktr.ee/sami_serrag_music
