South Boulder Peak - 8,549' !

Details

8 miles RT with 2,850' elevation gain.

This is the highest of the three peaks that form the backdrop west of the Flatiron rock formations in Boulder. It is usually more peaceful compared to Green Mountain or Bear Peak. The crux of the hike involves a steep push up Shadow Canyon and a lot of high lunges will earn you a good quad and glute workout. The burn area from a fire several years back really doesn't detract from the hike. There's some talus hopping near the summit, but it's not exposed. This hike is an out-and-back. Nice views abound from the summit.

Please bring your pack, layers, fluids, snacks/lunch, and good footwear. I don't think we'll need spikes. Don't forget your sun protection. Some of you might prefer pole(s) for the steep descent. We'll take short breaks throughout and a longer break on top.

This is a popular TH and that's the reason for the early start. To minimize our impact on the limited parking spaces, please consider carpooling from the nearby Eldorado Park n Ride. Comment if you're willing to drive a few people the short distance. There is a $5 parking fee if your vehicle is not registered in Boulder County or you don't have an annual pass.

You'll have earned some refreshments, and after we can stop at Bambei Brewing for food and drink.
