In Britney's role as an IT security auditor, she learned quite a few security tips that were easy to implement at home. Then, as news came up about major breaches and hacks, she learned that many times it was some of these tips that could have prevented some of these public disasters. Small steps have potentially large impacts. Britney would like to take this time to share with you what she has learned. If you would like to bring your computer, you can follow along and see if you have some of these simple things set up on your computer. Britney's aim is to provide screenshots for both Apple and Windows operating systems.
If you work for a company with an IT department, your work computer will probably have great security set up already, so it will be more beneficial to bring your personal laptop. If you work for yourself, are a part of a small company with no IT department, or work for a company that is bring your own device, it could be helpful to bring your work computer. If you don’t bring a computer, that’s ok. I will move through many topics that don't use your computer and I’ll post screenshots on Slack – you can definitely check it yourself at home, as it is not technical. Some of the topics covered will be encryption, ransomware, patching/updates, using a vpn, pineapples, how great phishers have gotten, and anything else my tech buddies think would be helpful.
