The 2026 midterms were the first elections where generative AI was everywhere at once. It wrote campaign emails, produced ads, cloned voices, answered voters' questions (sometimes correctly), flooded feeds with synthetic content, and helped newsrooms cover hundreds of races at a speed no human team could match.

So what actually happened? How much of what voters saw was real? Who got fooled, who caught it, and who missed it entirely? And why should a business leader who has never run for office care about any of this?

Here's why: every tool that targeted voters this fall can be aimed at your company next. A cloned candidate's voice can just as easily be your CEO's voice.
