Denver Biolabs is happy to offer you an opportunity to get an in-depth and hand-on look at the groundbreaking genetic engineering technology, CRISPR-Cas9.
In this workshop you will learn how CRISPR systems work in nature and how they are leveraged in modern genetic engineering techniques. We will also discuss basic design considerations for creating guide RNA sequences and some of the creative ways CRISPR-Cas9 is being used in current research.
During the hands-on portion of this workshop we will be using CRISPR-Cas9 to edit the genome of E.coli to allow it to survive on a growth medium it could not normally tolerate. Our experiment will attempt to reproduce the work in this paper: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3748948/ . The protocol for our experiment can be found at: http://www.the-odin.com/crispr-bacterial-guide/ .
All materials and supplies for the workshop are included in the registration cost. The CRISPR-Cas9 supplies were generously donated by The ODIN (The Open Discovery Institute) http://www.the-odin.com , which is dedicated to making Science and Technology Research more accessible.
