What does it actually take to build peace—not just avoid conflict, but truly repair what’s been broken? At its core, it could be argued that peace building requires connection to spirituality. Across spiritual traditions, peace is less about agreement and more about relationship. In this gathering, we’ll explore peace building as a spiritual practice rooted in some key ideas: that peace begins with belonging (not necessarily agreement), that healing is communal and personal, and that peace is sustained over time through practice. These ideas can be a framework for thinking about conflict not as something to escape, but as something that can deepen connection.
We’ll draw from both Eastern and Western traditions to ground the conversation. From the Christian practices of confession, reconciliation, and shared table, to Eastern emphases on interdependence, awareness, and disciplined practice, a common thread emerges: peace is something we cultivate. It asks something of us—honesty, patience, humility, and a willingness to remain connected even when it’s difficult.
This isn’t about having the “right” answers or fixing the world’s biggest problems. It’s about exploring what kind of people—and what kind of communities—we become when we take peace building seriously. Come ready to have a rich, reflective, dynamic, and peace cultivating discussion. It might just make you rethink what peace actually requires.
So join us at Table Public House as we explore this great topic. If the weather is suitable, we may be outside.
