What we’re about

## What we're about

The Denver Formula 1 Club was created in March of 2012 by Schuyler Ocheltree because F1 fans were so hard to come by in this country. The group had a slow start due to unfavorable race times and a lack of a good venue to get together and watch the races.

The current organizer, Daniel, took over the group in September of 2012, with Aymii joining him as co-organizer a few years later.

At the start of the 2013 season, the group found The Three Lions Pub along with Jon and Ian Forget through the help of Walter Penny. Our timely union finally gave the group a real venue, opening as early as 5:30 AM to serve us great drinks and food in a truly perfect setting. Unfortunately, all good things seem to come to an end, and in January 2019 the Three Lions poured its last pint and shut the doors for good.

Thankfully, we found a new venue at the Will Call in RiNo. Will Call was a great fit and the Club continued to grow. Most of our watch parties were at RiNo but we ended up with a great backup venue at The Celtic downtown.

As the 2020 season geared up it was almost as quickly shut down by the global pandemic. The race organizers were able to pick up the pieces and get back to racing in July and we ended up with a "full season". There were no watch parties in 2020 due to restaurant restrictions.

We were able to start up our watch parties again in March of 2021 and have been at The Celtic on Market ever since.

No matter the driver you like or the team you love, come down to The Celtic on appropriate Sundays no matter the hour. There will always be a group of die-hard F1 fans to watch the lights go out, Cheers!

    ## Details

Thanks be to Noel and Wendy, as they'll be open bright and early for the Singapore GP. After Azerbaijan, the season is all of a sudden exciting again!

Join us at The Celtic on Market this Sunday for the pre-race starting at 05.30am with lights out at 06.00am. There will be food and regular beverages available starting at 6.00am. Regular bar service begins at 7.00am.

Because of the group size and staffing needs, we request that everyone meet the "two drink minimum." That being said, ordering food counts, so even if you're not a drinker, it shouldn't be hard to find something. Basically, just get anything, and the Celtic will continue to welcome us with open arms.

New and long-time fans of every driver/team are welcome. If it's your first time and/or you'll be alone, please message us and we will reserve a spot for you in the Organizers' VIP Paddock, where you can meet some new friends (space permitting).

    ## About the Race;

When was the Marina Bay Street Circuit built?
The Marina Bay Circuit arrived on the scene in 2008. A street track with the city's famous skyline as its spectacular backdrop, the initial circuit plan by Herman Tilke was refined by KBR Inc, and the event quickly established itself as one of the standouts on the F1 calendar.

When was its first Grand Prix?
In 2008, Singapore had the honour of hosting the first night-time race in F1 history. The Grand Prix – the 15th round of that season – proved a huge hit with the teams and drivers, while Renault’s Fernando Alonso claimed a controversial victory.

    What’s the circuit like?
The Marina Bay Circuit is one of the most physically demanding on the calendar, its bumpy street surface coupled with humid conditions giving the drivers plenty to think about. Even after a 2023 layout change reducing the number of corners from 23 to 19, they are working the wheel a lot, too, around the high-speed lap – the physical stress causing them to lose as much as 3kg in body weight over the course of a race.

    Why go?
If you want to see Singapore at its best, there’s no better time to do so than when Formula 1 arrives in the heart of this buzzing city. Get the lay of the land by taking a ride on the Singapore Flyer, a giant Ferris wheel overlooking the track’s permanent pits complex, then get stuck into Singapore’s incredible bar and restaurant scene. Cocktail fanatics should also make a pilgrimage to the famous Raffles Hotel – the proper home of the Singapore Sling (non-alcoholic versions are available!)

Where is the best place to watch?
Get yourself comfy in the grandstand located at Turn 1, which offers spectacular views as the cars accelerate into the first corner, before braking hard and whipping through Turns 2 and 3. You’ll get a great view of the start too – expect to see plenty of sparks fly as the drivers blast off the line.
