Talk Summary:

We will cover GHC type errors by showing code examples and work through, step by step, how to fix these errors. There will be code snippets in the slides to highlight problems. Additionally, we will do some live coding to show which compiler errors we get in GHCi. Code examples will iterate through examples of common beginner mistakes. The presentation will show how errors can compound and lead the developer to misinterpret the problem. It will show attendees these errors are difficult to figure out, but that they have all the tools to debug their code mistakes.

Prerequisites:

This talk is suitable for functional programming beginners, but does expect prior programming knowledge in any language.

Schedule:

• 7:00 -- we're open! come say hi and socialize

• 7:30 -- talk begins

• 8:30 -- we all leave Mersive and some of us go to Breckenridge or Blake Street

Accessing the building:

All the doors will probably be locked by the time you arrive, so please go to the side entrance located here: https://goo.gl/maps/nu6NcPbE5PK2 (zoom in to see where the pin is relative to the building). We will have someone at the door from 7:00 until 7:30 -- don't be too late! we'll be watching the comments on meetup, so if you are late, post a comment.

Parking:

Also, if you park in any of the lots to the southwest, southeast, or northeast of the building, you MUST make this sign clearly visible in your window: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6lcKzF_4d2zaVJrdlpGQWdhOEk/view . Otherwise your car WILL BE TOWED. If you park in the Rockies lot to the northwest of the building, your car will be towed whether you have a sign in your window or not, so don't do that.
