Whats going on in JavaScript Land? (20min)

We'll be talking about new/exciting things going on in the industry. If you have something you think we should mention, feel free to tweet us @DenverScript (https://twitter.com/denverscript).

Shorter Presentation(10 - 15min):

Introduction into TypeScript - Geoffrey Filippi
This talk will start with an overview of JavaScript ES6 and ES7 features. We will introduce TypeScript for JavaScript developers. We will dive into the additional features of TypeScript. Finally, we will show how to use TypeScript in a project, and explore the tooling support in VSCode and other IDEs.

Geoff Filippi is a software architect with 15 years of full-stack development experience. He is currently using TypeScript with Angular 2 and Node.js.

Longer Presentation(20 - 30min):

How to Build a Mobile IoT App in JavaScript

We wondered how hard it would be to create one of those door locks you control with your phone. Then we decided to find out - 100% in JavaScript. The result is Sesame App - Unlock Your Door with Your Fingerprint.

In this talk you’ll learn about:

  • Building a mobile app in React Native (and using iPhone’s TouchID)
  • Building a lock system with Arduino and Raspberry Pi
  • And making the two talk with Firebase’s Realtime Database.

Ricky Padilla, Scott Wilkins, and Mike Coulter are recent Galvanize graduates. They love making React & React Native apps and tinkering.

Socialize:

We'll have beer and pizza! We'll also allow people to announce any job opportunities they may have at that time so you can socialize with potential applicants.
