Fire, Water, Air, Earth--The Elements and the Tarot

Details
The four elements, fire, water, air, and earth, correspond to the four suits of the tarot. But how can you tell which element is associated with which suit? And how can we use that in our readings?

In this hands-on exploration, we'll look at a variety of tarot decks and learn how to use the visual and symbolic clues in the cards to understand which element is associated with which suit. Each element represents a particular energy, and we can use this to understand the meaning in the card. Then based on our research, aided by helpful handouts, we'll compile a list of symbols that represent each element so that we can always clearly identify the energy embodied in the card.
Although all levels can learn from this, this is perfect for beginners or even those who have never seen a tarot deck before. If you already know tarot, you might have to leave behind what you've already learned, just for a night. We'll let imagination and creativity guide us, rather than hard and fast rules.
About Your Presenter
My very first meeting with the Denver Tarot Meetup was August 24, 2006 at Isis Books (the old location!). (Yes, this photo is of me that night!)

Scott Womack did a reading for me using his favorite (at the time) deck. Later that night, I woke up unable to sleep thinking about the cards he had used. The realizations I had set me on a course of exploration, research, learning and practice that eventually led directly to this presentation that I'm sharing with you tonight. I'm hoping to provide you an opportunity to have the same type of a-ha moment that I had almost eight years ago.
If you'd like to know anything about my background, I've been reading the cards since 1991 and teaching tarot for twenty years. I am CEO (Chief Esoteric Officer) of Joy Vernon Tarot and Reiki, Inc. and I am one of the Psychics of Isis. You can find out more at my website (http://joyvernon.com/).
I have been very active with DTM since I joined in 2006, and in 2011, Scott handed over leadership of the Denver Tarot Meetup to me. I am always striving to fulfill Scott's mission of bringing tarot out of the closet and to develop our community through education, fellowship, and professional opportunities.
