Des Moines Waterland Walkers Highline College Walk

On Saturday, May 24th at 11:00, we'll explore the Highline College campus and walking trails. Please plan to arrive a few minutes early so we can start walking promptly at 11:00.

We'll meet in the South Parking lot of Highline College, which is at the intersection of South 240th Street and 25th Avenue South. Park in the lot close to the entrance sign near 240th. Even though there are signs saying you need to pay $2.00 for parking, campus security has assured us that they don't check parking on weekends and there's no need for us to pay.

We'll meet at the entrance sign a few minutes before 11:00 and walk to a couple of neighborhood parks, Salt Air Vista Park and Parkside Park, which are close by. Next, we'll wind through the campus, visit some gardens, sculptures, and totem poles and enjoy the great view of the water. Finally, we'll walk through some really lush forest paths (one of them even has a small, covered bridge) that circle a pond, and wetlands associated with the campus. From there, we'll make our way back to the parking lot.

This walk is approximately 2.5 miles on paved sidewalks or wide forest paths. There are a few small hills here and there, and also a few steps, mostly going downhill, and very manageable. As always, walkers will be able to spread out and walk at their own pace. Four-legged friends are also welcome!
