Designing for People #1: Designing WITH People
Details
RSVPs are now closed. If you haven't replied "yes" to this event, we'll see you at the next one!
Join us for our very first meetup on Tuesday July 21st! We'll be talking about Participatory Design.
Participatory Design (also known as co-design) is an approach to design that attempts to involve all stakeholders in the design process -- from employees, to end-users or customers, to the public -- in order to create an outcome that meets their needs. Our speaker, Eulani Labay will provide examples of Participatory Design, how to use it, and actionable ways to fit it into your own design process -- no matter what field you are in.
Whether you design in the physical or digital realm, work for corporations or nonprofits, by yourself or on a large team... there are ways to incorporate this method into your process!
Light snacks and beverages will be served.
About our Speaker:
Eulani Labay (http://eulanilabay.flavors.me/) is an award-winning strategist in design and social impact. With a background that includes literature and theatre, she engages people in storymaking through diverse media to create meaningful site-specific experiences. Her projects have tapped the imagination of teens to reverse the food-desert status of the South Bronx; channeled children’s gameplay to manage disease in developing countries; empowered teachers to reform their urban high schools; and sparked generosity amongst a fleeting community of NYC subway riders. Her work has been recognized with awards from World Studio and The Adobe Foundation and from The New Challenge.
Eulani is a frequent collaborator with the Magnum Foundation, facilitating the design of provocative works in documentary photography, from political campaigns to digital narratives. She is an instructor at Parsons The New School for Design, where she teaches systems thinking and community engagement.
