What we’re about
We are about Food, Fun and Friends in Queens, NY!
The borough of Queens, NY was first settled by the Lenape, an Algonquian-speaking group from present-day New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The Dutch settled in Queens in the 1600s, and the area became known as Newtown. In 1683, the British annexed Newtown as one of the original 12 counties of the Province of New York, and the English settlement was renamed as "Queens" after the Portuguese royal princess Catherine of Braganza (1638-1705) who was Queen Consort to England's King Charles II. The area remained mostly rural until the 1800s when it began to urbanize. In 1898, Queens became a borough of New York City (source: Wikipedia).
In modern times, Queens is the easternmost and largest in area of the five boroughs of New York City, geographically located at the western end of Long Island. Queens is one of the most ethnically diverse urban area in the world, as residents often closely identify with their neighborhood rather than with the borough or city. The borough is a patchwork of dozens of unique neighborhoods, each with its own distinct identity. (Source: nyc.gov)
