A linked list class that uses a single lock to mediate all its method calls is not scalable on multiprocessor machines. If too many threads try to access the linked list object at the same time only one thread succeeds because the lock forces other threads to wait. In this talk I will discuss several useful techniques that go beyond coarse-grained single locking to allow multiple threads to access a single linked list at the same time
