Modernising Legacy Code - Strategies and Hands On Workshop

About:
This hands-on workshop aims to lay the foundational concepts for working with legacy code, and modernising legacy code to keep up the pace of rapid change in the business environment.

Participants can benefit from this live hands-on workshop and can expect to apply them in their day to day work environment. Basic requirement is proficiency in one or two programming languages, and exposure on a live project.

Agenda:

• Welcome and Setting the Context - 10 mins
• Foundational concepts for Legacy code Modernisation
• Talk + Demo - 90 mins
• Hands On Exercise - 120 mins

Outcomes:
Participants will walk away from this event with an understanding of:

• The basic principles behind refactoring code
• How to isolate changes in code from affecting other unknown parts of the program
• Making effective use of safety nets while making changes in an unfamiliar code-base

Notes:

• This is a hands-on programming workshop. Participants are requested to bring their own laptops with their IDE of choice installed.
• The initial demo will use a common programming language, however for the hands-on exercise participants are free to use any language of their choice.
