🥇Your platform is only as good as your Development Experience — Miguel Elias dos Santos

An IDP (internal development platform) is an overloaded term nowadays. Developers (clients of the platform) want to focus on delivering amazing software instead of investing/wasting time trying to figure out how to deploying their applications to production.

An IDP must be able to abstract away all the unnecessary steps for its clients so they can become as productive as possible.

In my 13y of experience, I've seen platforms with amazing features that still didn't have the basics as far as development experience goes:

- Applications should be launched within few days and not weeks
- Observability must be first class citizens and not an after thought
- Repetition should be kept to a minimum
- Abstractions are not to hide details away but to give controls for the Operators of the platform to have the ability to promote wider changes transparently
