Talk #1: Radically Candid, the modern psychology that leads to effective leadership:
Being radically candid seems difficult, while it’s an effective way to motivate people to grow in their profession. In this talk Michel van Velde, CEO One Shoe, shares his management-style journey from pampering to being radically candid which enabled him to grow his company. He will share his learnings and eye-openers of the modern psychology of transactional analysis, the drama triangle and the power and pitfalls of self-analysis that changed his leadership style effectively.
Talk #2: Real world Continuous Delivery: Learn, Adapt, Improve
This talk tells the story of a recent real life project I did together with 4 development teams. Learn how we adopted the textbook practices, patterns and principles of Continuous Delivery and applied them to an existing monolithic application. I’ll discuss what worked well & what didn’t, and how we dealt with the messy reality of failing pipelines, flaky tests and brittle infrastructure. Find out how we transitioned from mostly manual, bi-weekly, error-prone releases to 30 automated deployments per day, while significantly reducing overhead and increasing quality.
Michiel Rook is a very experienced, passionate and pragmatic freelance IT consultant from the Netherlands. Working as a coach, software developer & architect, and a strong leader, he considers it his mission to help companies significantly improve their software quality and delivery process. Currently, he focuses on adopting Continuous Delivery & DevOps principles, culture and tooling, legacy software transformations, and cloud migrations.
Michiel is a regular speaker at (international) conferences and events. When he’s not thinking about continuous deployment, devops or event sourcing he enjoys music, cars, sports and movies.
