Talk #1 from Marco Zaccaria Di Fraia: Code, Data, Kindness, and the Future: on DevOps and DataOps
In the age of AI and rapid digital transformation, an organisationās data ecosystem is one of its core competitive advantages.
This talk addresses how DevOps-like practices can be applied to the management of data ecosystems through a DataOps framework.
By adopting DataOps practices - several of which are introduced in the presentation - organisations can accelerate data delivery, improve data quality, and foster trust in data-driven decisions.
Additionally, the talk discusses the essential human dimension of DataOps: how building a culture of collaboration, empathy, and kindness within data teams can enhance resilience, drive innovation, and maximise the impact and reach of data-driven solutions
The future is racing ahead. Is your data keeping up?
Marco is a Senior DataOps Engineer at a Silicon Valley start-up, with a rich background in AI and data-driven innovation.
Prior to his current role, he was the first hire at a pre-ChatGPT Generative AI start-up in Oxford, where he worked as an AI Research Engineer.
He holds a PhD in Visual-Based Autonomous Systems for Space Exploration from Cranfield University, an MSc in Aerospace, Aeronautical, and Astronautical Engineering from the University of Naples āFederico II,ā and is currently pursuing an MSc in Sustainable Development at SOAS University of London.
Passionate about connecting data, community, and social/environmental justice, Marco is the co-founder and CTO of an international NGO and has held several leadership roles in citizen science initiatives.
Talk #2 from John James: Adding history to your prompt API call
If you go to chatgpt.com and start a chat, the third or fourth LLM response takes into account all previous messages. But when you use the OpenAI API, you have to provide the chat history yourself if you want the generation to consider it. So what are the options to make developer lives easier when we need to do this, and how much do the different options cost?
John explores a real use case he faced last year and presents his analysis of the various options. He explains the requirements and shows the resulting feature in the Charisma Editor.
John is the CTO of Charisma.ai, an Oxford startup at the forefront of conversational ai in training, storytelling, and marketing. He holds an honours degree in Mathematics from the University of Kent, and worked as a transport modeller for several years after graduating.
His passion for technology led him to transition to full-time web development and he worked as a consultant for high-profile clients including NHS Digital and SkyBet, across a range of programming languages and platforms. In recent years, he has used his experience to take on leadership roles in startups.
