Quarkus: next-generation Kubernetes Native Java

Java was introduced to the open-source community more than 20 years ago and it still remains extremely popular among developers. However, we now live in a world dominated by the cloud, mobile, IoT, and open source, where containers, Kubernetes, microservices, reactive, Function-as-a-Service (FaaS), 12-factor, and cloud-native application development can deliver higher levels of productivity and efficiency. As an industry, we need to rethink how Java can be best utilized to address these new deployment environments and application architectures.

This is where Quarkus comes on the scene as the bright new star in the Java world. Quarkus is a Kubernetes Native Java framework tailored for GraalVM and HotSpot, crafted from best-of-breed Java libraries and standards.
The goal of Quarkus is to make Java a leading platform in Kubernetes and serverless environments, and boost the enjoyment of developing code with Java.

Join us in this session to find out what Quarkus is all about and why you should consider using it for your next project, and why not, refactor your existing projects to take advantage of all that cloud native development has to offer!

Speaker info

Kevin Dubois is a Developer Advocate at Red Hat. He previously worked as a (Lead) Software Engineer at a variety of organizations ranging from small startups to large US enterprises and even the Belgian public sector. In between fixing production bugs at 4AM and fighting the business to allow time to reduce technical debt, he would contemplate on how to make life easier for developers.

This is why he is now on a mission to supercharge developer productivity while making coding fun again, the Open Source way. He is currently particularly excited about Quarkus, Event & Domain Driven Architectures, Serverless and Red Hat’s developer-focused Kubernetes solution, Openshift.
